"Even while going through my father's suicide and multiple miscarriages, I believed I had to be strong. And that being strong meant showing no emotion. I built a dam to block all the sad emotions and grief but that dam broke. I broke down.

Diane is our Development Director at House of Hope, but she is also one of our Faces of Hope. She has faced many struggles in the past several years — each of wish could have easily broken anyone. She leaned on her faith and her family at House of Hope to help her through the difficult times. This is her story.

“Even while going through my father’s suicide and multiple miscarriages, I believed I had to be strong. And that being strong meant showing no emotion. I built a dam to block all the sad emotions and grief but that dam broke. I broke down. House of Hope came along beside me and helped me to realize that it’s okay to feel all of the emotions, it’s okay to need help, and that God is right beside me all of the way. House of Hope taught me the importance of validating and voicing my emotions. It does not make me weak or wrong, it makes me real.”
